Compact Dating Advice

A decade of dating advice, condensed into one list:

  1. How some treats you in month one is a sales job, how someone treats you in month six (up to month 24) is who they actually are.
  2. If you’re always the one pursuing or always the one being pursued, something is off. Healthy relationships have both people chosing each other consistently.
  3. The best way to date someone amazing is to become someone amazing.
  4. We tend to judge relationships by the peak experiences, the most romantic moments, the greatest nights out, the incredible sex. But the reality of a long-term relationship is your average tuesday morning.
  5. Unhealthy relationships seduce you with fantasy and excitement, healthy relationships just feel peaceful.
  6. Loneliness is a terrible reason to start a relationship, but it’s an even worse reason to stay in one.
  7. If you need them to be a certain way for you to be OK, then you’re not OK.
  8. Attraction is not proof. Plenty of people are attracted to things that hurt them.
  9. Someone’s potential is not a good reason to stay with them. Love them for who they are now, not for what they might one day become.

This isn’t mine, it’s from Mark Manson. Cursive parts are additions by me.
